History and Development

St. Mary’s Malankara Syrian Catholic Church, Chempumala in the Major Archdiocese of Trivandrum belongs to the Ecclesiastical district of Punalur.  The first community of this parish was formed in 1932 by the mission work of Rev. Fr. Alexander Valiyaveettil. This Parish was established on 8^th December 1938 by the Servant of God Archbishop Mar Ivanios.  New church was built by Rev. Fr. Koshy Chakkalamannil and blessed by Late Archbishop Benedict Mar Gregorios in 1976.
